Fasiha is a Peterborough based artist, telling stories through illustration, painting and paper cutting. Fasiha is currently exploring the emotional and familial impact colonialism has had on identity and people like herself. Fasiha is a proud British Pakistani, but sometimes feels frustrated with the lack of awareness and understanding of the impact the creation of the border had between India and Pakistan. Fasiha has taken a recent interest in exploring the juxtaposition between the aesthetic nature of papercut illustration and the potential dark stories that develop from post colonial history.
During her residency, Fasiha used the back space at Metal Peterborough as her studio and for 5 weeks, she experimented with different mediums, such as textiles, paper, projections, photography and painting. She explored how to visually tell the story of the emotional and familial impact colonialism has had on the identity of people like herself. Fasiha had conversations with Metal staff and other residency artists, exploring her creativity and creating a body of work. Fasiha’s residency will conclude with her hosting a sharing of the work she created during her residency.
“This residency has been a chance to envelope myself into my culture and history, both positive and negative. It has been an opportunity to explore my own personal art style and have dedicated space and support in which to be able to achieve this. It was a complete mindful break from the everyday.”
