Call Out: Residency Artist John Clark is looking for voices to contribute to their project Idøle

Call Out: Residency Artist John Clark is looking for voices to contribute to their project Idøle

Filmmaker and Metal residency artist John Clark is looking for voices within the Deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent (DDN) communities in Peterborough to contribute to a series of short films for their project Idøle*.

Whilst in residence, John is developing several short fictional film scenes capturing often underrepresented voices across the city. Based on his own experiences, John shares that “the current media narratives around disability and representation seem to be of two mindsets, either deemed as ‘Lazy Scroungers’ when on entitled Benefits or seen as ‘Inspiring Superheroes’ with unachievable expectations”. As part of his research John will be exploring and rejecting some of the false narratives imposed on the DDN community.

Can you help John with their research? He would love to speak to people and hear your stories to help inform the short films. If you’re interested, get in touch at idole_project@keemail.me, and you can share your story via email, voice note, video recording or in conversation with John.

*The project title “Idøle is a blending of the two words Idle and Idol, both that seem to be continuous perceptions of those with disabilities. Idle and lazy, or idolised beyond realistic expectations.”
