DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk and Q&A with Arts Council England’s\, Relationship Manager (Engagement and Audiences)\, South East for the Arts Council of England (ACE)\, Caroline Wallace.   \nThe session will look at both the new ACE Project Grants and Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) to help you consider what the best route is for you. Caroline will talk through the application form\, the criteria and explore what information you may need to provide as an applicant.  \nThis talk aims to demystify the application process\, as well as providing top tips. Caroline is there to help answer your queries\, so do come prepared with your burning questions!  \nIf you’re interested and would like to know more – please email jack@metalculture.com  \nLink to book:    \n  \nAbout Arts Council England\, Project Grants:\nProject Grants can support individual practitioners\, communities and cultural organisations with projects that focus on: Combined Arts including festivals and carnivals\, Dance\, Libraries\, Literature\, Museums\, Music\, Theatre or Visual Arts. \nThe funding comes from the National Lottery. Grants usually range from £1\,000 to £100\,000. Project Grants is always open\, so you can apply at any time. You can choose whether you would like to apply for up to £30\,000 or over £30\,000 for your project. When the Arts Council say ‘project’\, they mean a series of activities or a piece of work. Your project will have a start and an end date\, and a set of measurable aims that you’d like to achieve in that time. https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/ProjectGrants  \n   \nAbout Arts Council England\, Developing Your Creative Practice:\nDeveloping your creative practice funding is to support individuals who are cultural ad creative practitioners and want to take time to focus on their creative development. Individuals can apply for development activities with ACE supported disciplines\, for example undertaking a period of research\, networking\, or time to create new work. Grants are between £2\,000 and 12\,000 and there are 4 application rounds a year.  https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/dycp  \n  \nAbout Caroline Wallace:\nCaroline Wallace is the Relationship Manager (Engagement and Audiences)\, South East for the Arts Council of England. She has been working in cultural roles for over 25 years including as a County Arts Officer\, Cultural Engagement Officer and as a Project Co-ordinator for Art and the Public Realm. Most of these roles were in Luton or Bedfordshire. They included programming\, community engagement\, managing arts and cultural projects\, fundraising\, and running grant programmes. Events included Carnivals\, Melas\, Mushairas\, and Armed Forces Days.  \nAlongside this work Caroline carried freelance projects\, here is a list to give you an idea of the variety of work they have been involved in:  \n\n Curated ‘Luton Busway Archaeology’ which included an exhibition\, an engagement project and a conference about disability and access to the arts.\n Established groups and ran a variety of projects in empty shops including High Hats a hat shop in Luton.\n Organised a day of Jazz Dance for the Royal Festival Hall with various artists including Jazz-co-tech Dancers.\n Organised the first ever Open Studios national conference for Visual Artists in the UK .\n\nContact: Caroline.Wallace@artscouncil.org.uk

DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting artist\, gardener and writer Sean Roy Parker on Thursday 25 January to explore ‘Regenerative Art Practices in the Climate Crisis’ for our first Metal New Artist Session of 2024. Book a free ticket here. \nRegenerative Art Practices in the Climate Crisis\nArtist\, gardener and writer Sean Roy Parker leads this session on making changes to the way we conduct our creative practices while remaining authentic\, collaborative and inquisitive. The talk considers the socio-economic pressures of being an eco-responsible artist\, and invites us to try radical transparency when considering materials\, labour and audiences. Roy asks “Why does art need to exist indefinitely when we don’t have a forever secured?” \nAbout Sean Roy Parker\nSean Roy Parker is a writer\, food researcher and visual artist based at The Field\, an experimental rural arts residency and co-living project near Ilkeston\, Derbyshire. He practises slow\, low-tech crafts and food preservation with consumer waste and natural abundances\, and shares extensively through labour exchange\, favours and artswaps. In his ongoing project Fermental Health he writes about and leads workshops on the lifecycle of materials\, complexities of interspecies responsibility\, and collaborative problem-solving through the lens of food justice. SUMMARY:Metal Southend: Open Advice Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Our Metal Open Advice Sessions for artists are back!  \nOn Monday 29 January\, we’re offering free 1:1 sessions for artists who live and/or work within our local area. These sessions will be led by you and what you would like to discuss.  \nYou can choose to have your session in person at our location at Chalkwell Hall in Southend\, as well as the option to discuss your work with us online. There is one session available per artist and the slots are 1 hour long. Any artist that has previously booked a slot on our last 2 open advice sessions won’t be eligible this time. \nYou can book a free 1:1 slot with us . \nWhat’s on offer?\n\nOur team will share their experience and backgrounds during a one-hour long session. Your session will be led by you\, and you can decide what you would like to discuss. What you share with us in the session will stay in the meeting. We will not share your ideas outside of the session space. The sessions can either be in person or online. Please let us know your preference when you book. \nWhat can you talk about? \nAnything to do with your art or practice! We can answer questions you might have about funding or put you in touch with networks and organisations\, or just discuss your project idea.  \nPrevious sessions have included: \n\nDiscussing your creative practice \nTalking through a project idea \nAdvice or sign posting to different funding routes or opportunities \nBuilding relationships with different organisations\, voluntary groups\, partners or venues \nBudget development or reading draft applications \n\nThese sessions will be led by you\, so please come prepared with questions and discussion points. When booking your slot\, you will be invited to give us some context about what we will be discussing. \nWho can book an Open Advice Session? \nOur sessions are open to artists working in any artform at any stage of their career. Individuals\, collaborations or collectives can book a slot. \nThe only stipulation is that you must live or work in\, or have a strong connection to South Essex (Basildon\, Brentwood\, Castle Point\, Rochford\, Southend-on-Sea\, Thurrock). \nThere is one session available per artist or group and the slots are 1 hour long. Session booking will be open on a first come first served basis. \nWhat timeslots are available? \nDuring the day you will be able to book one of our hour long sessions. Timings are: \n10am-11am\n11.30am-12.30pm\n1.30pm-2.30pm\n3pm-4pm\n4.30pm-5.30pm \nHow to book: \nPlease book via our Eventbrite link .    \nWe understand that projects and funding have different timelines that may fall outside of the dates of these bookable sessions.
