SUMMARY:Make Scouse with a Scouser Again with Dora Colquhoun: Disrupting Loneliness in Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to share the iconic Liverpool dish with friends old and new\, and enjoy a warm evening of socialising while learning a new skill. \nArtist Dora Colquhoun has lived in Liverpool for 13 years but has never had a home-cooked bowl of Scouse made by a Scouser. Dora calls Liverpool home and wants to uncover the secrets behind what makes this stew so special. \nIs it beef or lamb? Do you add turnips? Things could get controversial! But at the heart of Scouse is a big pot of nutritious\, warming stew designed to bring people together. \nFor this event\, you’ll be joined by experienced chef Alex Mufti\, who has worked at Kensington Children’s Centre for 15 years\, teaching families across Liverpool how to cook affordable\, healthy meals. \nAlex says:\n“Cooking is a fantastic mechanism for engaging communities — something that has been lost in recent years.” \nWhat to expect:\n– A bowl of traditional Scouse with a vegan alternative\n– Come on your own or with friends — you’ll be gently encouraged to meet new people\n– A take-home recipe so you can make Scouse (and a veg version) at home\n– A chance to connect over the city of Liverpool and celebrate what makes it special \nBook your free place here. \nDora is also holding this event on Thursday 26 February\, 6pm – 8pm. If you can’t make this date\, check out the other here. \nAbout Dora Colquhoun\nDora Violet Colquhoun is a theatre-maker and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance\, devising\, writing\, and facilitation. Her work often invites audiences to participate\, blending humour\, music\, and heartfelt storytelling. \nShe is the founder of Violet Arts CIC and has spent the past ten years collaborating with a wide range of artists and communities. Through these projects\, she has developed a toolkit for devising and writing performance\, with a focus on making work that is funny\, moving and memorable. \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Liverpool here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations. The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be. \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.
