SUMMARY:Art Locker Workshop at Roots and Rise: Disrupting Loneliness in Peterborough
DESCRIPTION:A forgotten locker has been given a new purpose. Now it travels across Peterborough. As it travels\, it needs filling with artwork. \nJoin artist Rose Croft for the launch of The Art Locker. Each locker will have a piece of artwork that can be taken and added to\, asking what happens when we open spaces that are usually closed and private and invite people to share instead of keeping things to themselves. \nThe Art Lockers have been created to disrupt loneliness through small creative acts of exchange. \nDuring the session you’ll hear about the project\, explore the lockers and help fill them as they do their six-week residency across three community venues this spring. \nFor the Art Lockers you could:   \n– Learn how to fold an origami style Victorian love letter\n– Write a note of encouragement\n– Make a small artwork or object\n– Or bring something of your own to add  \nEvery contribution becomes part of the journey. \nAbout Rose Croft\nRose is a socially engaged artist\, storyteller and creative producer\, dedicated to creating safe\, accessible spaces that foster connection through art\, story\, and nature. Their practice is rooted in the belief that creative experiences can inspire joy\, strengthen personal and community resilience\, and deepen cultural connection. \nRose regularly works with arts organisations\, charities\, community groups\, schools and festivals. They are one half of the not-for-profit arts organisation Art Pop-Up and the founder of the producer-led collective Angry Pencil. Rose has shared stories and delivered workshops both locally and internationally for over 14 years. \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Peterborough here.  \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations\, The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be. \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.
