SUMMARY:A/Owning
DESCRIPTION:A/Owning is a new public artwork by José García Oliva\, as part of Words in Public Spaces. \nWorking with local shop owners across the city\, many of them migrant and second-generation families\, José has adapted each awning into stages for a city-wide cultural programme. The words on the awnings come from a poem written collectively by people in Peterborough. \nOn the night\, contemporary dance performances and live music will happen under the awnings. The music is written for each shopfront and draws on its sounds\, its owners and the places its food and people come from. A part of each piece will also be improvised in response to what is happening around: a door opening\, a bus passing\, voices at the till. \nRefreshments will be served at the final shop location\, plus there will be a DJ night led there too! \nWords in Public Spaces is a new public art commission from Metal\, part of Peterborough Cultural Alliance’s Place Partnership Programme. \nBook free tickets here. \nImage credit: Alice Mann
