SUMMARY:Here We Are Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Here We Are is an exhibition of works expressing individuality\, mess\, union\, and hope. Created by local young people in collaboration with Metal\, The Kite Trust\, and The British Museum\, new urgent\, noisy\, and non-conformist works celebrate unheard voices and showcase queer joy.    \nDuring the Autumn of 2025\, 15 local young people took part in Where We Are\, a UK wide youth-led programme with The British Museum\, supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation\, for those aged 16–24. The programme placed them at the heart of shaping arts and culture in their local communities\, empowering young people through the co-creation of arts and culture.   \nWorking with artist Rose Croft\, Metal\, and The Kite Trust\, the group have explored new ways of making and creating work – from spoken word\, to alternative ways of mark making\, and music-jamming sessions. They’ve explored themes around power and youth voice\, all whilst learning about the creative gems that Peterborough has to offer.   \nThis has resulted in the creation of Here We Are\, a pop-up exhibition taking place in the heart of Peterborough city centre. The exhibition is an opportunity to see all the work that young people have created during the programme.    \nAlongside the exhibition on Saturday 24 January from 2 – 5pm there will be creative activities\, performances\, and a discussion panel taking place between 2 – 5pm.   \nAbout the Where We Are programme   \n‘Where We Are’ is a youth-led British Museum programme\, supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation\, for those aged 16–24 aims to empower young people through the co-creation of arts and culture projects within their own communities.   \nRunning from 2021–2025\, Where we are… is delivered through a collaborative partnership between the British Museum\, a local museum (or cultural organisation)\, a third sector organisation (charity\, community group\, social enterprise etc.) and young people.  \nAbout The Kite Trust    \nSince 1993\, The Kite Trust has been at the forefront of delivering LGBTQ+ youth programmes\, offering peer-to-peer support and safe social spaces for young people facing discrimination and marginalisation. Each year\, they support over 500 young people aged 13–30 through a range of services\, including weekly social groups\, family events\, residential trips\, one-to-one support\, and youth leadership initiatives.   \nYou can find out more about The Kite Trust here

SUMMARY:What we heard - Artists to Artists
DESCRIPTION:Join us for What We Heard: Artists to Artists – an evening bringing together members of Cambridge’s creative community for conversation\, ideas and food\, as we share the new Artists to Artists commissioned work and mark the culmination of a programme of shared dinners\, gatherings\, conversations and commissions connecting creative voices across Cambridge. \nOver several months artists and creative freelancers have been coming together to talk honestly about their experiences\, challenges and hopes for Cambridge cultural life. \nYou’ll hear from commissioned artists Zhuozhang Li\, Sarah Wood and Idit Nathan\, who will share the artworks they’ve created. Each artwork captures insights gathered through conversations with their peers and networks\, imagining what the future culture of a thriving creative Cambridge could look and feel like. \nThere will be time to hear what has emerged so far\, and space to reflect. Your voice matters. Whether you’ve been part of the conversations already or are joining for the first time\, you’re invited to be part of shaping what comes next. \nThis work is supporting the development of a new cultural strategy for Cambridge\, commissioned by Create Cambridge – the city’s cultural compact bringing together artists and cultural organisations\, with academic\, industry and civic organisations to lead on a bold new vision for Culture in Cambridge. \nBook here by 12pm\, Thursday 12 February. \nAll food will be vegetarian. If you have any dietary requirements\, please let us know when booking. For any further questions please contact jack@metalculture.com or call 01733 89307 \nFind out more about Create Cambridge here.   \n

SUMMARY:Spinning Yarns with Tool/Toy Project: Disrupting Loneliness in Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how sheep’s fur gets made into wool? \nJoin us for an intimate hands-on workshop brining a group of strangers together to do some making blending ancient craft\, sharing stories and spinning yarns after dark. Make your own spindle and learn to spin a yarn! \nHosted at the Tool Library in Aspen Yard\, off Lodge Lane on Friday 20 February\, 6-8pm. \nCan’t make it? There’s another event on Saturday 21 February. Email edgehill@metalculture.com for more details. \nEvents are free and open to anyone. \nAbout Tool/Toy Project \nTool/Toy Project are artist duo Rachel Jones (social researcher and artist based in Norwich) and Maegan Icke (architect and artist based in Liverpool). \nThey explore the objects of work and play\, and create projects with tools and toys that tell us something about their societies of origin. Their work includes themes of degrowth\, play\, domesticity and urban planning with the aim of imagining alternative societal structures that don’t incentivise ecological destruction and social exploitation. \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Liverpool here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations. The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be. \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.

Each locker will have a piece of artwork that can be taken and added to\, asking what happens when we open spaces that are usually closed and private and invite people to share instead of keeping things to themselves. \nThe Art Lockers have been created to disrupt loneliness through small creative acts of exchange. \nDuring the session you’ll hear about the project\, explore the lockers and help fill them before they begin their six-week residency across three community venues this spring. \nFor the Art Lockers you could:   \n– Learn how to fold an origami style Victorian love letter\n– Write a note of encouragement\n– Make a small artwork or object\n– Or bring something of your own to add  \nEvery contribution becomes part of the journey. \nAbout Rose Croft\nRose is a socially engaged artist\, storyteller and creative producer\, dedicated to creating safe\, accessible spaces that foster connection through art\, story\, and nature. Their practice is rooted in the belief that creative experiences can inspire joy\, strengthen personal and community resilience\, and deepen cultural connection. \nRose regularly works with arts organisations\, charities\, community groups\, schools and festivals. They are one half of the not-for-profit arts organisation Art Pop-Up and the founder of the producer-led collective Angry Pencil. Rose has shared stories and delivered workshops both locally and internationally for over 14 years. You can find out more about what’s happening in Peterborough here.  \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations\, The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be. \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.

SUMMARY:Southend-on-Imagination - Learning to Ride a Bike in Westcliff: Disrupting Loneliness in Southend
DESCRIPTION:When the infrastructure for care and connection is eroded\, how does it affect our memory of a place and sense of belonging? And what happens when we come together to see places we might have never been to or might have passed by hundreds of times from a different lens and imagine their futures by sharing diverse experiences present in Southend? \nSouthend-on-Imagination is an artist project by Gulsen\, commissioned as part of The Unlonely City that brings people in dialogue to explore how our surroundings – beyond brick and mortar – can host and impact our emotions and sense of belonging and collectively imagine how we want Southend to look and feel like in 2050. \nIn this walk\, you’ll explore a part of Southend from Sabine’s personal perspective\, enriched with your reflections\, contemplation and responses. \nPlease bring some tools/materials (like a phone\, camera\, sound-recording device etc) to capture your reflections on the walk and any prompts shared by Sabine. Each locker will have a piece of artwork that can be taken and added to\, asking what happens when we open spaces that are usually closed and private and invite people to share instead of keeping things to themselves. \nThe Art Lockers have been created to disrupt loneliness through small creative acts of exchange. \nDuring the session you’ll hear about the project\, explore the lockers and help fill them as they do their six-week residency across three community venues this spring.

SUMMARY:Southend-on-Imagination - Other Mothers and Staying with the Trouble A Walk into the Woods with Charlie Hurst: Disrupting Loneliness in Southend
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we return to our place of origin only to find little sense of belonging\, mutual recognition or an affirming sense of home? How do we reorient afresh in a painfully familiar place? Where can we find new sources of care and connection? How do we remain hopeful when it all feels like starting from scratch? \nOn returning to Westcliff after 10 years away spent in Leeds\, London\, Chicago and New Zealand\, local resident Charlie Hurst invites you to explore some of these questions through this leisurely walk-come-lecture-come-shallow-paddle-through-a-brook\, through both local and personal history. The walk is a part of Southend-on-Imagination project. \nThe walk will begin near Charlie’s gran’s old house on the outskirts of the 1\,000 year old woodland of Belfairs Park and end at their grandad’s commemorative bench hidden in the heart of the bush. Through the course of the walk\, Hurst will touch on concepts of othermothering\, staying with the trouble and the ties that bind (Patricia Hill Collin\, Donna J Haraway\, Sarah Schluman). \nAs we hope some of the walk will include paddling in the brook\, please wear waterproof shoes or welly boots. After the walk\, we might go for a hot drink at Belfairs Nature Discovery Centre. \nPlease bring some tools/materials (like a phone\, camera\, sound-recording device etc) to capture your reflections on the walk and any prompts shared by Charlie. Creativity is highly encouraged. Pen and papers will be provided on the walk. \nThe walk will be fully outside\, so please check the weather on the day\, wear a comfortable pair of shoes\, and bring a bottle of water with you. After the walk\, we might go for a hot drink\, and you are welcome to join. \nAnyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult. \n  \nSouthend-On-Imagination \nWhen the infrastructure for care and connection is eroded\, how does it affect our memory of a place and sense of belonging? And what happens when we come together to see places we might have never been to or might have passed by hundreds of times from a different lens and imagine their futures by sharing diverse experiences present in Southend? \nSouthend-on-Imagination is an artist project by Gulsen\, commissioned as part of The Unlonely City that brings people in dialogue to explore how our surroundings – beyond brick and mortar – can host and impact our emotions and sense of belonging and collectively imagine how we want Southend to look and feel like in 2050. \n  \nAccessibility Notes  \nThe distance will be approximately 1.6 miles with no steep gradients. The route may include some uneven surfaces. Please advise us in advance of any additional accessibility needs. If you have any additional questions\, email southendonimagination@gmail.com \n  \nParticipation Guidelines  \nThese walks aim to create a safe and respectful space for all involved. By attending the walk\, you are agreeing to be kind and welcoming to others; approach the walk with curiosity and creativity; be respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences; be mindful of language that may exclude or alienate. Please do not disparage others. \nHarassment and sexist\, ableist and racist\, transphobic or other prejudicial comments or behaviours will not be tolerated. We may ask you to leave the walk if you fail to adhere to this code of conduct. \nPlease keep noise levels low when we are in the residential area and be mindful of not obstructing entrants to the hospital\, buildings etc. Please ask before taking photos of other people on the walk and respect people’s privacy. \nFor any questions please email southendonimagination@gmail.com \nAbout Gulsen  \nGulsen is a multi-disciplinary researcher and artist exploring collective imagination as a way to challenge\, question and interrogate how modern technologies\, systems\, and infrastructures prioritise nebulous concepts of efficiency\, growth\, and innovation instead of\, and often in opposition\, to the real world effects these pursuits have on people. With her practice\, Gulsen looks at what kinds of spaces\, activities\, rituals\, responses\, and conversations might allow us to embrace uncertainty and to come together to imagine different possible futures. \n  \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness  \nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Southend here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. SUMMARY:Creative Peer Meet-Up with Olga Jurgenson & Idit Nathan
DESCRIPTION:Feeling stuck working on your own? Missing creative conversation\, shared thinking\, or simply being in a room (even a virtual one) with people who get it? \nJoin artists Olga Jurgenson and Idit Nathan for a relaxed and welcoming peer mentoring introductory session as part of Get a Room – space for creatives to come together\, spark new ideas\, and collaborate. Book a free place. \nOlga and Idit have both been part of a long-standing peer mentoring group and know first-hand how valuable it can be to have a space for reflection\, support\, accountability\, and creative exchange. This session is an invitation to come together with other artists and creatives\, meet like-minded people\, and explore what a peer-led support group could look like. \nWhether you’re looking for connection\, fresh perspective\, encouragement\, or just a space to think out loud with others\, this session is for you. \nTogether\, Olga and Idit will introduce some of the guiding principles of peer mentoring and help create a space for open conversation\, curiosity\, and creative solidarity. The hope is that this will support the formation of a new group that can continue meeting independently in the future. \nAn additional follow-up session will also be shaped around the needs of the group. \nThis session is free to attend. To book your space\, fill in the form here. \nAbout Get a Room\nGet a Room is all about making space for connection\, conversation\, and creative collaboration. It’s for artists and creative folks who want to think out loud together\, share early ideas\, and build something meaningful with others. These are the kinds of spaces that are often missing in our cities and across the country: spaces where people can come together to share\, reflect\, and explore ideas in a supportive\, private setting. This initiative supports the formation and development of artist- and creative-led groups built on kinship\, curiosity\, and solidarity. Groups where people can come together to talk about what’s on their minds\, swap experiences\, and maybe even dream up something new. \nAbout the artists \nIdit Nathan\nIdit is a Cambridge based conceptual artist\, her work includes interactive installations\, live events\, games\, audio visual works\, walks and artists’ books where play operates as a productively provocative space to challenge accepted understandings. Using optics\, scale and perspective participants respond to contemporary dilemmas both as actors with free will and actors in an historical and cultural context. Her artworks have been been exhibited internationally and are held in private and public collections. Idit has taught\, lectured and mentored privately and at art schools across the UK and until 2020 was associate lecturer at Central St. Martin’s College (University of the Arts London)\, where she completed an arts practice PhD titled Art of Play in Zones of Conflict – the Case of Israel Palestine in 2018. \nOlga Jürgenson\nBorn in Siberia\, raised in Estonia\, currently based in the UK\, Olga Jürgenson works and exhibits internationally. Her inherited familial nomadism\, combined with an inquisitive mind filtered through a feminist lens\, has led her to explore humanity’s search for utopian Paradise. Whether collaborating with the world’s first AI love doll Samantha\, researching television detective stories while questioning the role of God\, or painting portraits of robots disguised as celebrities\, Olga is drawn to the complexity of human nature. Her current work involves communicating with the spirits of her ancestors\, rummaging through their archives as they gladly share with her their Earthly experiences in carpentry\, crocheting and surviving bloodthirsty dictators. Olga has also participated in significant group exhibitions globally.

SUMMARY:Resetting Your Creativity Rhythm with Jeffrey Choy
DESCRIPTION:Clocks went forward on 29th March\, and we “lost” an hour. What if we used this seasonal shift to find a different kind of time? \nIn this edition of Get A Room\, artist and writer Jeffrey Choy invites you to a low-pressure social setting centred around the ups and downs of the creative process. This session specifically looks at the down cycles of creativity\, the essential periods of absorbing others’ arts\, daydreaming\, being playful and resting\, activities that are often treated as “unproductive”. This Get A Room is a curated space for collective rhythm with no expected outcome. Whether you’re in a high-energy creative phase or a quiet burnout phase\, you’re welcome to bring your “unfinished business” into the room. \nWhat to bring:\n– (optional) Your Work: A laptop to write\, a sketchbook to doodle\, knitting\, or a project you’ve been stuck on.\n– (optional) Your Inspiration: A book you’re currently devouring\, a handheld game you’re playing\, or a clip/reel that’s haunting your thoughts\n– (mandatory) Yourself: Just as you are\, whether you’re feeling high-battery or low-power. \nWhen: Thursday 14 May\, 5-7pm \nWhere: at RB7 Art Centre CIC\, Queensgate\, Long Causeway\, Peterborough PE1 1NT \nBook a free space here. \nAbout Jeffrey Choy\nJeffrey Choy is an artist and writer investigating the mechanics of cultural production\, with a focus on decolonial narrative\, through his practices of writing\, visual and spatial design\, documentation\, publication\, and interactive media. His practice examines the designer as scribe for commercial culture\, questioning how visual communication lends authoritative power to political and economic entities. Jeffrey works against this complicity\, interrogating how propaganda and class disparity become naturalised within culture. \nAfter a decade in visual communication and branding\, and having trained and worked in the fields of interior design and architecture\, Jeffrey’s creative trajectory shifted dramatically following the political upheaval in his hometown of Hong Kong. This rupture led him to rethink the role of media\, language\, and visual communication under conditions of state control. Across print\, digital media\, and physical spaces\, he explores how narratives are shaped\, censored\, and reclaimed. His publications work as both artistic objects and platforms for critical discourse\, often extending into participatory formats that treat play as a deliberate counter to late-capitalist crises and the ideology of infinite growth. \nHe is the co-founder and lead visual of Hidden Keileon CIC\, an artist-led collective working with migrant and queer communities to imagine futures through non-hierarchical collaboration and multidisciplinary\, life-affirming cultural projects. His artistic practice is shaped by collective authorship\, radical friendships\, and a politics of publishing grounded in the commons\, designing as a shared practice of survival and reimagination\, open to the curious and the critical alike.
