SUMMARY:Invited by Metal: Reverie - a dream of autoimmunity by Joanna Holland
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 2 November\, 7pm   \nPeterborough Museum and Gallery   \nTickets £7.50  / free for people who identify as living with chronic illness\, Disabled\, D/deaf and/or neurodiverse    \nAges 14+  \n  \nInvited by Metal\, multidisciplinary artist Joanna Holland brings her performance Reverie – a dream of autoimmunity to Peterborough.   \n  \nA once grand hall in an abandoned manor house – now in a dilapidated state of disrepair. A young woman\, a dreamy new friendship\, and a curse. An unorthodox relationship\, but one which has utterly lifted her from a state of melancholia.  \n  \nSuddenly this friendship takes a sinister turn\, and she finds herself in a nightmarish scenario – where comfort is replaced by claustrophobia and trust by terror.   \n  \nRule one – never ever share your innermost secrets.  \n  \nRule two – old houses are not to be trusted.   \n  \nEntanglements between chronic illness and a repetitive dream inspired Joanna’s auto-fictional tale of love\, loss and unpredictability. Reverie is performed as a dreamlike monologue by award-winning actress Louise Kim Salter. Directed by Stéphanie Joalland.  \n  \nThe performance will be followed by a Q&A with writer Joanna and actress Louise.   \n  \nPresented by METAL Peterborough\, funded by Arts Council\, England.  \n  \nThis performance is part of The Haunted. Running over the course of a year\, The Haunted is a collection of performances\, talks\, readings\, and soundscapes which explore liminal space\, dreaming\, sick bodies\, horror\, and the uncanny. Female-led narratives by Disabled and non-Disabled artists share what it’s like to exist in an ever-shifting\, ‘in between’ space.   \n  \nContent information: Reverie – a dream of autoimmunity features themes of horror\, chronic illness\, parasomnias\, nightmares\, visions\, pain and death. It has an unnerving and extremely loud soundtrack\, with some sudden noises\, moments of darkness and flashing lights.   \n  \nTickets are £7.50 or free for people who identify as living with chronic illness\, Disabled\, D/deaf or neurodiverse  \n  \nBook your ticket here: https://peterboroughmuseum.org.uk/events/reverie \n  \nFind out more about the project at https://www.hollandsyntax.uk/   \n  \nImage Credit: Louise Kim Salter in Reverie © Chloe Page

SUMMARY:Dream Space: We're all from somewhere... with Soraya Smithson and Kate Genever
DESCRIPTION:Join artists Soraya and Kate on 13 November to explore what’s in a name?   \nSouvenirs and surnames overlap. Both things we keep\, and both relate to specific times and places. Souvenirs come from close and faraway places. Names do too.   \nSoraya and Kate invite you to join us over a collection of souvenirs as we start to think about what journeys our families and their names have been on to meet us here in Peterborough in 2025.   \nDo you\, like Kate\, have a Dutch surname that’s arrival in the area is long lost? Or perhaps yours is Italian and relates to the city’s brick history? Maybe you are Ukrainian or Somalian or Scottish and your name speaks of a more recent arrival? Maybe you don’t know but are intrigued to find out more.  \nAs part of the session Kate and Soraya will invite you into a creative activity that generates future souvenirs. New objects that record our presence here in this time and space.  \nThis event is part of Metal’s Dream Space\, which will breathe new life into an empty shop unit in the corner of Queensgate\, transforming it into a vibrant hub for reading\, reflection\, dreaming for the future and creative exchange in the heart of Peterborough.  At the centre of Dream Space is our Pop-Up Reading Room – a place where ideas are cooked up\, books are shared\, and conversations spark. Alongside this\, we’re offering a packed programme of events and workshops and the opportunity to co-design a new pop-up reading room structure to live on beyond the project. Your voice matters. Whether you’ve been part of the conversations already or are joining for the first time\, you’re invited to be part of shaping what comes next. \nThis work is supporting the development of a new cultural strategy for Cambridge\, commissioned by Create Cambridge – the city’s cultural compact bringing together artists and cultural organisations\, with academic\, industry and civic organisations to lead on a bold new vision for Culture in Cambridge. \nBook here by 12pm\, Thursday 12 February. \nAll food will be vegetarian. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how sheep’s fur gets made into wool? \nJoin us for an intimate hands-on workshop brining a group of strangers together to do some making blending ancient craft\, sharing stories and spinning yarns after dark. Make your own spindle and learn to spin a yarn! \nHosted at the Tool Library in Aspen Yard\, off Lodge Lane on Friday 20 February\, 6-8pm. \nCan’t make it? There’s another event on Saturday 21 February. Email edgehill@metalculture.com for more details. \nEvents are free and open to anyone. \nAbout Tool/Toy Project \nTool/Toy Project are artist duo Rachel Jones (social researcher and artist based in Norwich) and Maegan Icke (architect and artist based in Liverpool). \nThey explore the objects of work and play\, and create projects with tools and toys that tell us something about their societies of origin. You can find out more about what’s happening in Liverpool here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations. SUMMARY:Make Scouse with a Scouser with Dora Colquhoun: Disrupting Loneliness in Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to share the iconic Liverpool dish with friends old and new\, and enjoy a warm evening of socialising while learning a new skill. \nArtist Dora Colquhoun has lived in Liverpool for 13 years but has never had a home-cooked bowl of Scouse made by a Scouser. Dora calls Liverpool home and wants to uncover the secrets behind what makes this stew so special. \nIs it beef or lamb? Do you add turnips? Things could get controversial! But at the heart of Scouse is a big pot of nutritious\, warming stew designed to bring people together. \nFor this event\, you’ll be joined by experienced chef Alex Mufti\, who has worked at Kensington Children’s Centre for 15 years\, teaching families across Liverpool how to cook affordable\, healthy meals. \nAlex says:\n“Cooking is a fantastic mechanism for engaging communities — something that has been lost in recent years.” \nWhat to expect:\n– A bowl of traditional Scouse with a vegan alternative\n– Come on your own or with friends — you’ll be gently encouraged to meet new people\n– A take-home recipe so you can make Scouse (and a veg version) at home\n– A chance to connect over the city of Liverpool and celebrate what makes it special \nBook your free place here. \nDora is also holding this event on Thursday 19 March. If you can’t make this date\, check out the other here. \nAbout Dora Colquhoun\nDora Violet Colquhoun is a theatre-maker and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance\, devising\, writing\, and facilitation. Her work often invites audiences to participate\, blending humour\, music\, and heartfelt storytelling. \nShe is the founder of Violet Arts CIC and has spent the past ten years collaborating with a wide range of artists and communities. Through these projects\, she has developed a toolkit for devising and writing performance\, with a focus on making work that is funny\, moving and memorable. \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Liverpool here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations\, The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be. \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.

SUMMARY:Art Locker Launch Workshop: Disrupting Loneliness in Peterborough
DESCRIPTION:A forgotten locker has been given a new purpose. Now it begins its first journey across Peterborough. But before it travels\, it needs filling with artwork. \nJoin artist Rose Croft for the launch of The Art Locker. Each locker will have a piece of artwork that can be taken and added to\, asking what happens when we open spaces that are usually closed and private and invite people to share instead of keeping things to themselves. \nThe Art Lockers have been created to disrupt loneliness through small creative acts of exchange. \nDuring the session you’ll hear about the project\, explore the lockers and help fill them before they begin their six-week residency across three community venues this spring. \nFor the Art Lockers you could:   \n– Learn how to fold an origami style Victorian love letter\n– Write a note of encouragement\n– Make a small artwork or object\n– Or bring something of your own to add  \nEvery contribution becomes part of the journey. \nAbout Rose Croft\nRose is a socially engaged artist\, storyteller and creative producer\, dedicated to creating safe\, accessible spaces that foster connection through art\, story\, and nature. Their practice is rooted in the belief that creative experiences can inspire joy\, strengthen personal and community resilience\, and deepen cultural connection. \nRose regularly works with arts organisations\, charities\, community groups\, schools and festivals. SUMMARY:Southend-on-Imagination - Learning to Ride a Bike in Westcliff: Disrupting Loneliness in Southend
DESCRIPTION:When the infrastructure for care and connection is eroded\, how does it affect our memory of a place and sense of belonging? And what happens when we come together to see places we might have never been to or might have passed by hundreds of times from a different lens and imagine their futures by sharing diverse experiences present in Southend? \nSouthend-on-Imagination is an artist project by Gulsen\, commissioned as part of The Unlonely City that brings people in dialogue to explore how our surroundings – beyond brick and mortar – can host and impact our emotions and sense of belonging and collectively imagine how we want Southend to look and feel like in 2050. \nIn this walk\, you’ll explore a part of Southend from Sabine’s personal perspective\, enriched with your reflections\, contemplation and responses. \nPlease bring some tools/materials (like a phone\, camera\, sound-recording device etc) to capture your reflections on the walk and any prompts shared by Sabine. Creativity is highly encouraged. Pen and papers will be provided on the walk. \nThe walk will be fully outside\, so please check the weather on the day\, wear a comfortable pair of shoes\, and bring a bottle of water with you. After the walk\, we might go for a hot drink and you are welcome to join.  \nAnyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult. \nAccessibility Notes\nThe distance will be approximately 1.6 miles with no steep gradients. The route may include some uneven surfaces. Please advise us in advance of any additional accessibility needs. If you have any additional questions\, email southendonimagination@gmail.com \nParticipation Guidelines\nThese walks aim to create a safe and respectful space for all involved. By attending the walk\, you are agreeing to be kind and welcoming to others; approach the walk with curiosity and creativity; be respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences; be mindful of language that may exclude or alienate. Please do not disparage others. \nHarassment and sexist\, ableist and racist\, transphobic or other prejudicial comments or behaviours will not be tolerated. We may ask you to leave the walk if you fail to adhere to this code of conduct. \nPlease keep noise levels low when we are in the residential area and be mindful of not obstructing entrants to the hospital\, buildings etc. Please ask before taking photos of other people on the walk and respect people’s privacy at the hospital site and at the children’s park.  \nAbout Gulsen\nGulsen is a multi-disciplinary researcher and artist exploring collective imagination as a way to challenge\, question and interrogate how modern technologies\, systems\, and infrastructures prioritise nebulous concepts of efficiency\, growth\, and innovation instead of\, and often in opposition\, to the real world effects these pursuits have on people. With her practice\, Gulsen looks at what kinds of spaces\, activities\, rituals\, responses\, and conversations might allow us to embrace uncertainty and to come together to imagine different possible futures.  \n  \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City.
