DESCRIPTION:Metal is working with Arts Council England (ACE) to host a series of talks and open advice sessions about how artists\, creatives\, community and voluntary groups can apply for a Project Grant to fund their work. ACE are keen for more people from the Peterborough and Fenland area to apply. \nWe’re offering free sessions for artists who live and/or work within our local area (Peterborough\, Cambridgeshire\, and surrounding villages). This session will be supported by local artist Kate Marsh along with a member of the Metal team. These sessions will have an Arts Council project rant focus\, but will be led by you and what you’d like to discuss\, which might include: \n\nTalking through a project idea\nDeciding which Arts Council funding stream is right for you\nBudget development or reading draft applications\nDiscussing your creative practice\nBuilding relationships with different organisations\, voluntary groups\, partners or venues to support an application\n\n  \nAbout Yvonne Hercules:\nYvonne is a singer-songwriter/artist & performer based in Cambridge UK. Her music has received nods from publications including Clash Magazine\, The Line of Best Fit\, Afropunk\, and others and she has received support from PRS Foundation\, Arts Council England towards her work. \nInspired by Folk\, Blues\, Rock & Soul\, her songs are a culmination of these genres underpinned by honest\, thought-provoking lyrics. She also draws on inspiration from visual mediums outside of music including art & film\, with visual concepts often coinciding alongside her songs. \nHow to book\nWe’re offering these sessions in person at Chauffeurs Cottage\, as well as the option to discuss your work with us online. Neurodivergent can be used to describe all kinds of disabilities that affect how people think or develop\, including autism\, dyslexia\, dyspraxia\, ADHD and more. \nOur definitions of these terms have been helped by research carried out by Peterborough Presents via their Reasonable Adjustment project\, you can read more about here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a creative workshop exploring the stories and histories of community gardens along the Liverpool and Manchester railway on Sunday 19 May at Lady James’ Hall from 1pm-3pm! \nPlanting and Placemaking Project (PPP) is a participatory mapping project by Zhuozhang Li that focuses on and celebrates community-based railway gardens along the Liverpool-Manchester railway. Are you an artist\, gardener\, eco-activist\, community gardener or nature enthusiast? We’re gathering at Lady James’ Hall in Irlam to share and exchange knowledge about ‘planting and placemaking’ at a site-specific workshop. \nThrough PPP\, Zhuozhang aims to ‘geographically re-connect the railway gardens between Liverpool and Manchester\, socially re-build a bridge between local communities and cultural organisations\, and together\, re-imagine an alternative relationship among community\, nature and urban infrastructure’. DESCRIPTION:Funding advice for Creatives and Curious Minds – hosted by Metal \nAre you an artist or creative? Budget woes? Look no further! This workshop will talk you through everything you need to know about preparing your budgets and finances when you’re applying for Arts Council Project Grant funding. Join Laura Hensser as they explain how to manage project finances\, create a realistic budget\, match funding and work through the logisitics of applying. \nThis session will be an introduction to getting ready to apply for Arts Council Project Grants from an experienced Executive Director who has successfully received funding for organisations and groups.  This is part of a series of workshops and open advice sessions that Metal has been working on with Arts Council England (ACE). \nThe hosted talks and open advice sessions are about how artists\, community and voluntary groups can apply for a Project Grant to fund their work. ACE are particularly keen to fund more people from the Peterborough and Fenland area and want to support them in applying.    \nThere will be a chance to ask questions over some light refreshments and food. \nAbout Laura Hensser: Laura is the Executive Director at Metal\, she’d previously held roles such as Managing Director at Gasworks and Triangle Network\, with experience working in the visual arts sector\, collaborating with artists\, international partners\, and community members to develop fundraising initiatives and artistic programmes. She’s currently a Trustee at Queercircle\, and until recently co-chair of Deptford X arts festival. Prior to joining Gasworks\, she worked at Matt’s Gallery and the Tate Modern where she supported the Tanks live performance and film programme\, as well as the development of the new Tate Modern capital project. \nAbout Arts Council England Project Grants: Project Grants can support individual practitioners\, communities and cultural organisations with projects that focus on: Combined Arts including festivals and carnivals\, Dance\, Libraries\, Literature\, Museums\, Music\, Theatre or Visual Arts. \nThe funding comes from the National Lottery. Grants usually range from £1\,000 to £100\,000. Project Grants is always open\, so you can apply at any time. You can choose whether you would like to apply for up to £30\,000 or over £30\,000 for your project. When the Arts Council say ‘project’\, they mean a series of activities or a piece of work. Your project will have a start and an end date\, and a set of measurable aims that you’d like to achieve in that time. DESCRIPTION:Funding advice for Creatives and Curious Minds – hosted by Metal \nIf you run a voluntary or community group and you’re wondering whether Arts Council Funding could support your activity\, this workshop is for you. Join us and art organisation GemArts for an ideas development workshop. Elevator Arts’ Labour of Love Community Quilt showcases the handiwork and experiences of mothers throughout Southend. Made in partnership with Labyrinth House\, textile artist Laura Johnson (Jilted Quilts) and facilitator Lauren Eve\, the quilt has been created across explorative sessions delivered with clients at organisations such as A Better Start Southend\, Do It Like A Mother\, Bump 2 Breat and Cake Club. \nThe exhibition launch will see the unveiling of the quilt displayed in the main hall at Metal. \nThe exhibition launch is free to attend. Due to chronic illness\, most of the time they’re based in bed. After starting out as a photographer\, they have developed their practice to centre access and spaciousness. This has meant working at a slower\, more long-term pace focusing on process and engagement – incorporating textiles\, print\, writing\, moving image and sound\, and performance. \nEdi creates socially-engaged work that tends to explore experiences of community and marginalisation\, memory and imagination – in particular they focus a lot on care\, queerness\, gender and cripness. DESCRIPTION:On Friday 12 April at 6pm\, we’ll be screening a series of short documentary films by Edge Hill University students that champion stories of grassroots resilience and chronicles one of the four climate assemblies run by Love Wavertree\, Edge Hill University and the University of Liverpool in 2022.  In the GATHERING phase of our PICTON PLAY project\, we’re interested in how people in our neighbourhood connect with and support each other through shared interests and concerns about improving the environment where they live. \nThe films showcase four community groups:  \n– Litter Clear Volunteer who are looking after public spaces around Earle Road and beyond\n– Aigburth Community Cycle Club who organise and lead rides across Liverpool\n– Wavertree Garden Suburb in Bloom who want to see the original vision of the Garden Suburb returned\n– Love Wavertree who not only work with FareShare to reduce food waste\, but also support the local community with affordable food through their Food Club \nThis event is presented by Love Wavertree\, Edge Hill University and the University of Liverpool in partnership with Metal. She won Highly Commended from Amnesty International at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 for her play Our Glass House\, and The Scotsman Fringe First in 2014 for her play No Guts\, No Heart\, No Glory\, both with Common Wealth. No Guts\, a play about boxing Muslim women\, was selected for the Women of the World Festival at the Southbank Centre\, and Live from TVC with the Battersea Arts Centre screened on BBC4. It is published by Oberon Books. \nAisha has been commissioned by Hampstead\, Fuel\, HighTide\, Pains Plough\, Curve Leicester\, Contact Manchester and is currently a Royal Literary Fund Fellow. She is a former Resident Artist at Somerset House Studios in London\, Theatre 503’s 503Five\, Associate Artist at HighTide and the Foundation Jan Michalski in Switzerland. Follow Sira Yoga here to keep up with their upcoming events. \nHosted at Metal Liverpool\, join Sira Yoga for an afternoon of yoga and life drawing at Edge Hill Station. The event theme ‘Wheels of Colour’ will encourage play with spectrums of brightness through physical and artistic practice. \nThe workshop begins with a 90-minute Hatha Raja Vinyasa Krama yoga class\, where we will work to activate the chakras. Chakras are small spinning wheels of energy that run along the back of the body. Hatha Raja Vinyasa Krama is a complete practice that works towards mastering body and mind. \nIn the 1-hour life drawing session that will follow\, we will practice looking at the body without making assumptions about what we see\, seeing the body in its most natural and colourful form. We’ll use watercolour to experiment with our drawing style. \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners in yoga and drawing. Sira Yoga will provide yoga mats\, props\, paint brushes and paint\, but feel free to bring your own equipment.
