SUMMARY:Hosted at Metal Liverpool: The Signalman
DESCRIPTION:Hosted at Metal Liverpool\, The Signalman is a ghost story by Charles Dickens performed by John Maguire and Zoran Blackie\, and directed by David Griffiths. \nAfter a spectacular sold-out run last year\, ArtsGroupie return to Edge Hill station with a production of the haunting Victorian play perfectly suited to the surroundings: The Signalman. Archetypal theatre in a typically theatrical setting! Enter\, as always\, via Platform 1… \nThere will be 2 performances across two nights: \n\nThursday 5 December\, 7pm\nFriday 6 December\, 7pm – Sold Out\n\nTickets are available from the organisers here. \n \nFrom the Producers of Kitty: Queen of the Washhouse and A Portrait of William Roscoe comes a slice of winter terror with a new adaptation of the much-loved Charles Dickens supernatural classic\, The Signalman.\n“As solitary a place as ever I saw…It struck a chill to me\, as if I had left the natural world.” A ghostly figure has visited the signalman twice already\, each time preceding a terrible disaster. When the apparition appears for the third time\, it’s up to the signalman to decode its meaning and prevent another catastrophe. A gripping slice of gothic horror from Charles Dickens\, regarded as the greatest horror story ever written. \nIn the tradition of classic oral storytelling\, a lantern and two players is all that is needed to tell the spine tingling tale of the Signalman. \n“The Signalman is a powerful and haunting story about survivor’s guilt and isolation – something we believe will be of striking relevance to our audience following the pandemic. Our inability to control events around us can be more frightening than any ghost\, as Dickens knew well. He wrote from experience\, a survivor of the Staplehurst railway disaster – events that both inspired and haunted the author.” – David Griffiths\, Writer and Director \n“Last year\, I worked with David on a critically acclaimed production of Orwell’s 1984 and Artsgroupie produced the successful Ghost Stories For Xmas. We are delighted to be once again collaborating on a much loved classic\, playing some new locations and re-visiting some of our favourite local venues.” – John Maguire\, Creative Director ArtsGroupie \nPlease note: This event is ‘hosted at’ Metal Liverpool and as such functions outside of Metal’s core programme as a dry hire. SUMMARY:Hosted at Metal Liverpool: John Zorn's Cobra (Liverpool Gathering Orchestra)
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by AMQH (whi music) at Metal’s Platform 1 building\, the Liverpool Gathering Orchestra will perform John Zorn’s infamous game piece Cobra at the close of its 40th anniversary year – and on Winter Solstice. The fun part? This piece of music can be extremely long or really quite short…rock up and find out which way this still-novel composition goes. Whatever the direction\, it’s bound to be play-full. \nFrom AMQH: \n“John Zorn wrote Cobra in 1984. It is a game piece\, involving cards\, gestures and headgear to direct and shape improvisations\, providing a framework for the music without inhibiting the players. Hopefully. \nThe LGO are ten of the finest local improvising musicians tackling Zorn’s rarely-performed piece. We didn’t have the budget to get Zorn himself over\, but do come and hear his composition.” \nThis will be the last event at Metal Liverpool for the rest of this year – on the shortest day\, no less – come to experience live musical spontaneity in all its unfettered\, humourous\, and raw glory. \nDoors 7.30pm\, music starts at 8pm. \nTickets are £7\, and £5 concessions \nAdvance tickets for AMQH / whi music events are available here. \nPlease note: This event is ‘hosted at’ Metal Liverpool and as such functions outside of Metal’s core programme. For more information on the organisers\, please visit their website here. For more information about Metal and what we do with our public programme\, click here.
