SUMMARY:What we heard - Artists to Artists
DESCRIPTION:Join us for What We Heard: Artists to Artists – an evening bringing together members of Cambridge’s creative community for conversation\, ideas and food\, as we share the new Artists to Artists commissioned work and mark the culmination of a programme of shared dinners\, gatherings\, conversations and commissions connecting creative voices across Cambridge. \nOver several months artists and creative freelancers have been coming together to talk honestly about their experiences\, challenges and hopes for Cambridge cultural life. \nYou’ll hear from commissioned artists Zhuozhang Li\, Sarah Wood and Idit Nathan\, who will share the artworks they’ve created. Each artwork captures insights gathered through conversations with their peers and networks\, imagining what the future culture of a thriving creative Cambridge could look and feel like. \nThere will be time to hear what has emerged so far\, and space to reflect. Your voice matters. Whether you’ve been part of the conversations already or are joining for the first time\, you’re invited to be part of shaping what comes next. \nThis work is supporting the development of a new cultural strategy for Cambridge\, commissioned by Create Cambridge – the city’s cultural compact bringing together artists and cultural organisations\, with academic\, industry and civic organisations to lead on a bold new vision for Culture in Cambridge. \nBook here by 12pm\, Thursday 12 February. \nAll food will be vegetarian. If you have any dietary requirements\, please let us know when booking. For any further questions please contact jack@metalculture.com or call 01733 89307 \nFind out more about Create Cambridge here.   \n

SUMMARY:Spinning Yarns with Tool/Toy Project: Disrupting Loneliness in Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how sheep’s fur gets made into wool? \nJoin us for an intimate hands-on workshop brining a group of strangers together to do some making blending ancient craft\, sharing stories and spinning yarns after dark. Make your own spindle and learn to spin a yarn! \nHosted at the Tool Library in Aspen Yard\, off Lodge Lane on Friday 20 February\, 6-8pm. \nCan’t make it? There’s another event on Saturday 21 February. Email edgehill@metalculture.com for more details. \nEvents are free and open to anyone. \nAbout Tool/Toy Project \nTool/Toy Project are artist duo Rachel Jones (social researcher and artist based in Norwich) and Maegan Icke (architect and artist based in Liverpool). \nThey explore the objects of work and play\, and create projects with tools and toys that tell us something about their societies of origin. Their work includes themes of degrowth\, play\, domesticity and urban planning with the aim of imagining alternative societal structures that don’t incentivise ecological destruction and social exploitation. \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Liverpool here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations. The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be. \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.

SUMMARY:Make Scouse with a Scouser with Dora Colquhoun: Disrupting Loneliness in Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to share the iconic Liverpool dish with friends old and new\, and enjoy a warm evening of socialising while learning a new skill. \nArtist Dora Colquhoun has lived in Liverpool for 13 years but has never had a home-cooked bowl of Scouse made by a Scouser. Dora calls Liverpool home and wants to uncover the secrets behind what makes this stew so special. \nIs it beef or lamb? Do you add turnips? Things could get controversial! But at the heart of Scouse is a big pot of nutritious\, warming stew designed to bring people together. \nFor this event\, you’ll be joined by experienced chef Alex Mufti\, who has worked at Kensington Children’s Centre for 15 years\, teaching families across Liverpool how to cook affordable\, healthy meals. \nAlex says:\n“Cooking is a fantastic mechanism for engaging communities — something that has been lost in recent years.” \nWhat to expect:\n– A bowl of traditional Scouse with a vegan alternative\n– Come on your own or with friends — you’ll be gently encouraged to meet new people\n– A take-home recipe so you can make Scouse (and a veg version) at home\n– A chance to connect over the city of Liverpool and celebrate what makes it special \nBook your free place here. \nDora is also holding this event on Thursday 19 March. If you can’t make this date\, check out the other here. \nAbout Dora Colquhoun\nDora Violet Colquhoun is a theatre-maker and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance\, devising\, writing\, and facilitation.
