SUMMARY:Stick & Scratch Night: Disrupting Loneliness in Peterborough
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a night of performances hosted at YMCA Community Hub\, as part of our Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness commission! \nArtist Sarah Saxby has teamed up with young people at YMCA Community Hub in Bretton to create Stick & Scratch – a youth-produced event spotlighting local talent\, creativity and fresh ideas. Celebrate emerging artists and the community selected by local young people in Peterborough. \n\nWhether you are performing on the night or cheering from the audience\, Stick & Scratch is your chance to be a part of this growing\, creative community! \nBook your free tickets here. \nAbout Sarah Saxby \nSarah Saxby is a queer writer\, actor\, facilitator\, and youth worker hailing from the Fens. She’s been working with arts organisations across East Anglia since 2020 to produce and deliver creative work for local communities\, including Norfolk & Norwich Festival\, YMCA Trinity Group\, and Menagerie Theatre. In 2022\, Sarah co-founded Sticks Theatre\, through which her first play\, ‘Fourteen in ‘14’ was produced\, following a year-long residency at the Key Theatre. Sarah’s artistic work is rooted in her identity as someone from the Fens and can be described as both intimate and outlandish\, personal and alienating. Crucially\, it always draws on themes relatable and important to those not accessing traditional theatre. \nAbout Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness\nIn Autumn 2025\, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then\, and even before then\, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity\, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Peterborough here. \nThe Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness\, nurturing moments of solidarity\, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions\, citizens assemblies\, parties and public conversations\, The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool\, Peterborough\, and Southend\, where Metal is based\, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be.  \nThe Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.
