John Clark is a filmmaker who aspires to write and direct films of his own and of others, drawn from life experiences and societal observations. His recently professionally credited BFI-funded debut short Snapshot does so, being based on his experiences with unemployment as an autistic adult.
John finds the world and people around him fascinating. Each life, and what drives people to the choices made through their actions and words, especially when dictated by their societal circumstances. Having lived experience as a working class, neurodivergent adult has always meant having both of his feet firmly on the ground, navigating and endeavouring the personal, social and financial hardships exacerbated by perpetuated stereotypes.
For this residency, John is exploring the perpetuated false narrative that “All people on benefits are lazy” by developing a series of short fictional film vignettes capturing often underrepresented voices within the City of Peterborough, that in turn would resonate with other working class voices nationwide, both niche and universal in nature.
