Sean Dendere is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from Zimbabwe based between Peterborough and London. Sean’s artistic practice is a conduit of multidisciplinary exploration, investigating deep into the themes of memory, spirituality and humanity. Rooted in storytelling, Sean weaves together various disciplines to craft eclectic and thought-provoking experiences.
Sean will use this residency to explore the production of his film/video artwork titled ‘No Shoes Inside’, which is a semi-autobiographical exploration of how people connect with home, ancestral memory, and the ritual of laundry through a cinematic interpretation. The film reflects his longing to reconnect with his birthplace in Zimbabwe, whilst navigating the complexities of his identity shaped by his upbringing in Peterborough. Drawing from others’ experiences to echo his own, the making process of ‘No Shoes Inside’ has been therapeutic, instigating healing dialogues in his community.
