We believe in the wider research value of the knowledge gained through artistic and creative practice and we work across disciplines with a range of people (artists and creatives, academics, local authorities, communities) to play, gather and measure the impact of this knowledge.
Our programme has three research and development themes that guide how we want to inspire social change over the next 10 years.
- Community and Connection: art’s social role in gathering, sharing, problem-solving and celebrating
- Climate and Nature: creative connection to nature and collective agency to impact the climate crisis
- Social Justice: equality of creative opportunity
Following on from these national themes, we have local research questions relating to the specific and necessary concerns of each Metal location such as urban biodiversity in Liverpool, food and farming in Peterborough, and creative education in Essex.
We’re excited about the potential of sharing knowledge between our three locations and seeing what happens when you add it together over a long period of time.
