The Liverpool Culture Welcome guide is designed with and for migrants and refugees based in Liverpool. The guide contains information about galleries, venues and festivals happening in the Liverpool area that are free for everybody to enjoy! It also includes information about accessibility for wheelchairs and prams and facilities available at these venues. Inside, a map can be found with easy transport links.
Previously at Metal, we have delivered creative language classes at Edge Hill Station for migrants and refugees, which led to having days out with the group to visit gallery spaces in the area. During the gallery tours we noticed that some venues have accessibility issues for those who are not so familiar with the area, or the conventions of visiting free cultural spaces in the city. By putting together The Liverpool Culture Welcome Guide, we have made information about free activities, festivals and spaces more accessible for migrants and refugees.
The Guide is written in plain English, making it easier for users with other first languages to navigate the city and improve their vocabulary. Paper guides will be available at select venues and will be launched during Refugee Week (16th – 22nd June). Arabic and Ukrainian versions are also available digitally.
