    Projects Metal Billboard Launch

    Metal Billboard Launch

    September 16, 2018 by

There will be lots going on at Chauffeurs Cottage on St Peters Road, and around the city over the festival period with arts organisation Metal teaming up with various partners to bring you music, craft workshops, films and debates. You can find out more below but do keep an eye out on our facebook for any updates.

    Metal Billboard

In 1888, Russian author and playwright Anton Chekhov said ‘the role of an artist is to ask questions, not to answer them’

Metal has commissioned ten visual artists to create new billboard posters for around the city centre that respond to questions posed by leading figures in the arts world. Comedian Phill Jupitus, singer/songwriters Neil Hannon from The Divine Comedy and Mark Stewart from The Pop Group, poet Mark Grist and writers Paul Morley and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown are amongst those who have provided Peterborough with pertinent questions for passers-by. The billboard designs will be on display throughout September and aim to stimulate debate through organised events, and social media. The billboards will be sited at Thorpe Road, Bourges Boulevard, Westgate, Lincoln Road, Oundle Road and London Road.

    Metal Billboard Launch

Metal Billboard artist-led walking tours. Sunday 31st August. Meet at Chauffeurs Cottage at 2pm

Join the Billboard artists for a walking tour of the city to look at the artwork in situ, celebrate the opening of the project, and start the discussion about the questions. This is your opportunity to engage directly with the artists and hear about their inspiration and working methods. The tour will take approximately 1 hour and take in Thorpe Road, Bourges Boulevard, Westgate, Lincoln Road and Oundle Road. Bring your mobile phones to take pictures for Facebook and discuss on Twitter!

Refreshments on return to Chauffeurs Cottage.

The role of the artist is to ask questions …. Sunday 31st August at 5pm, Chauffeurs Cottage

Inspired by the quote by playwright Anton Chekhov in 1888, join curator Simon Poulter in discussion with the Billboard artists to hear about the Billboard project, and consider what is the role of the artist in today’s society?

Join in the conversation on Facebook or Twitter  using the #MetalBillboard. Both these events are FREE but booking is essential please email ruth@metalculture.com or give us a call on 01733 893 077.
