    Stories, Mystery and Love

    Tales about Wavertree and Picton

Stories, Mystery and Love is a set of three short stories inspired by and dedicated to Metal Liverpool’s neighbourhood in Wavertree and Picton, written by award-winning authors Sophie Herxheimer, Hanan Issa, and Joelle Taylor. In February 2025 Metal invited the writers to visit the area, meet community members, and then write stories that showed the unexpected and surprising parts of the neighbourhood.

As a gift to the neighbourhood, we have posted a copy of the book to over 12,000 households in the L15 area.

This book is a reminder of what makes Wavertree and Picton special and unique. We invite you to make time to read these stories, on your own, or out loud with others. There will be some places that you recognise and other unusual things that you don’t.

As part of Make Time For Love, we have invited Sophie, Hanan and Joelle to the Wavertree Library to share read their stories and celebrate the finale of PICTON PLAY along with new art and workshops with artist duo YARA + DAVINA.

More information / book on to the readings
An open book. It has a yellow cover with text that reads, Make Time for Stories, Make Time for Mystery, Make Time for Love in 3 languages. Page one features the title and a line drawing with a map of the area of wavertree and picton that is labelled.

Stories, Mystery and Love is part of PICTON PLAY, a two-year Creative Neighbourhood project by Metal commissioned by Culture Liverpool.

    Book design by Thom Isom.
