We’re thrilled to announce our new programme ‘Working Artist Weeks’, funded by Freelands Foundation.
Working Artist Weeks is an artist residency and work experience programme exploring the relationship between home, school, and art spaces in shaping young people’s engagement with the arts.
Global majority young people, their caregivers and teachers from Liverpool, Peterborough and Southend will engage equally in artist residencies. Led by established artists, the group will freely explore their interests in family, representation and belonging through artmaking, conversations and meals.
By working closely with families and teachers, and changing the terms of engagement with art spaces, Working Artist Weeks will delve into perceptions of arts careers, young people’s ownership of creative spaces, teacher confidence in supporting young global majority artists, and more.
This programme responds to the findings of the Freelands Foundation and Runnymede Trust’s Visualise Report, which highlights racial inequality in arts education and the visual arts. It is inspired by experiences of global majority staff and our work across Liverpool, Southend, and Peterborough.
Working Artist Weeks is supported by Freelands Foundation.
