Art Locker Workshop at Roots and Rise: Disrupting Loneliness in Peterborough

April 2 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

A forgotten locker has been given a new purpose. Now it travels across Peterborough. As it travels, it needs filling with artwork.

Join artist Rose Croft for the launch of The Art Locker. Each locker will have a piece of artwork that can be taken and added to, asking what happens when we open spaces that are usually closed and private and invite people to share instead of keeping things to themselves.

The Art Lockers have been created to disrupt loneliness through small creative acts of exchange.

During the session you’ll hear about the project, explore the lockers and help fill them as they do their six-week residency across three community venues this spring.

For the Art Lockers you could:

– Learn how to fold an origami style Victorian love letter
– Write a note of encouragement
– Make a small artwork or object
– Or bring something of your own to add

Every contribution becomes part of the journey.

About Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness
In Autumn 2025, artists submitted their creative project ideas as part of The Unlonely City. Since then, and even before then, we’ve been thinking about how we can create unlonely cities through creativity, curiosity and just the right amount of chaos. You can find out more about what’s happening in Peterborough here.

The Unlonely City is an arts programme disrupting loneliness, nurturing moments of solidarity, surprise and laughter. Through a series of artistic commissions, citizens assemblies, parties and public conversations, The Unlonely City takes place across Liverpool, Peterborough, and Southend, where Metal is based, to imagine what an ‘unlonely’ city could be.

The Unlonely City programme is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation as part of the Arts Award.
