Hosted at Metal Peterborough, a workshop with performance artist Stacy Makishi, for anyone who is struggling with procrastination and motivation when making work and has a curiousness about live art and performance.
Date: Monday 23 September, 11am – 5:30pm and Tuesday 24 September, 11am – 5:30pm (attendees can attend one or both workshops)
Do you kill your creative ideas before they’re born? Do you notice that the more time you have, the less you get done? Are you constantly getting in your own way?
Stacy Makishi introduces Killing Time. This workshop will motivate participants to:
Killing Time is a physical workshop that welcomes anyone who is curious about live art and performance and those who want to learn from other artists or other art forms. There will be movement, writing, making images, flash performances, and making performance responses.
Participants are encouraged to come along with a willingness to try out new ideas and an adventurous spirit to walk out into the unknown. No experience necessary. Attendees can attend one or both workshops.
About Stacy Makishi
Hawaii born Stacy Makishi frolics with many forms including live art, film, visual art and physical theatre. She has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Albert Hall, TATE Modern and at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Stacy Makishi has over twenty year’s experience as a facilitator and has been carefully cultivating crafty ways to catch artists off-guard. She has taught at Harvard, MIT, UC Berkeley, Wellesley College and University of Massachusetts and has been resident artist and guest lecturer at Queen Mary University, London.
Stacy Makishi’s work has been presented at the Wellcome Collection, Southbank Centre for Yoko Ono’s Meltdown, In Between Time Bristol International Festival, the Traverse Edinburgh and BRUT : Vienna. She has been awarded an ICA Attached Artist Award, a Millennium Fellowship Award, a Live Art Development Agency One to One Bursary and the Franklin Furnace Award.
