    Letters To The Earth

    Join artists, writers, creatives and activists for an evening of readings, music and discussion at Chalkwell Hall on Friday 12th, 7.30pm – 10pm, part of Metal’s continued programme of Essex Writers House events: Letters to the Earth.

    Letters To The Earth is a nationwide response to the climate emergency backed by Royal Court, Shakespeare’s Globe & National Theatre Wales.

    For the past few months writers and artists, school children and members of the British public have been writing letters to the earth about the climate and ecological emergency. Over 1000 letters have been received and are due to be read out on April 12th at venues all over the world  from Zambia to Canada, from Latvia to New Zealand. Metal Southend will be one of the British venues and is inviting members of the public to come and hear the letters and join in an evening of discussion and music.

    Hosted by local writer and activist, Syd Moore, readers for the evening  include:

    and school children from local schools.

    “Hundreds of thousands of school strikers and rebels around the world are demanding action. Local governments all over the world are declaring climate emergencies. It’s time for the arts and cultural sectors to do the same. commented Kay Michael, theatre director and one of the organisers of the Letters To The Earth project.

    The letters will be made rights free and available for anyone to download and present anywhere in the world from 15th – 28th April, coinciding with the International Extinction Rebellion and School Strike For Climate.
