Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay, Minister for Arts, visits Metal Southend

    March 24, 2022 by PRadmin1 Leave a Comment

Earlier this week on Monday 21 March, Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay, Minister for Arts, visited our Metal Southend site, based at Chalkwell Hall. Lord Parkinson was keen to hear about our work with artists and creative practitioners, and the arts-based projects we have been involved in across the region.

Metal’s Southend Director, Andrea Cunningham said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to show off the rich creativity of Southend and to advocate for greater investment in the arts and culture that is already here. Lord Parkinson took a genuine interest in the cultural landscape of Southend and especially initiatives that supported creative skills amongst children and young people”.

Lord Parkinson visited the NetPark Wellbeing Project at our Metal Art School next door to Chalkwell Hall and observed an art workshop for members of the community living with dementia. He was eager to understand how programmes like this had adapted during the pandemic to continue their vital lifeline to vulnerable people.

Lord Parkinson was hosted by our Metal staff, including local Metal Trustees Josephine Melville and Simon Leftley.
