At Metal, many of us are artists, creatives and community organisers, as well as art workers. From photography to spoken word, writing to stitching, researching to curating and more, we make work ourselves alongside the work we do here. We move between practices and roles every day, supporting artists and communities while sustaining our own creative lives.
Art Workers and Artists is our new blog series sharing reflections from across the Metal team. Through personal stories and honest conversations, we’ll explore the realities of balancing creative practice with working in the arts; what it asks of us, what it gives back and what we learn along the way. Whether you’re an artist or freelancer, producer or curator, community organiser or creative, we hope you’ll find something familiar here. We hope these stories resonate, offer solidarity and open up the kinds of conversations we wish to hear more of ourselves.
