We’re committed to taking action on climate and sustainability across our work.
We run Shift, the climate and sustainability network for the cultural sector in the Liverpool City Region, bringing together more than 60 organisations to collaboratively address the climate emergency. We want Shift to become an increasingly influential space for collective learning across the region, enabling cultural organisations to test bold ideas together, share knowledge openly and help shape a more resilient, equitable and climate-conscious future for the sector.
We are also working in partnership with the Design Museum and UP Projects to develop a new Exhibitions Green Book for creative people and organisations working in commissions, events festival and artistic production.
Climate and Nature is one of Metal’s key research themes, guiding how we want to inspire social change over the next 10 years and shaping the research questions that underpin our work.
We have an Environmental Policy and Action Plan which we review annually. We have summarised the key steps we are taking below:
1. Engage audiences and stakeholders in positive climate action through artworks and discussion.
2. Report our annual carbon footprint and aim to reduce it by at least 25% per year based on previous data.
3. Regularly review and update our environmental policy, data and action plan, clearly demonstrating Metal’s pathway to net zero carbon.
4. Continue to develop Shift – the Liverpool City Region sustainability network
5. Implement the Arts Green Book’s building and operations systems across our sites.
6. Ensure all staff receive Carbon Literacy training.
We’d love to hear from and collaborate with organisations that could help make our work more impactful, and we’re equally happy to share the learning and insights we’ve gathered so far.
