    Residencies Rowena Gander

    Rowena Gander

    December 12, 2022 by

Rowena Gander is an international performance artist/academic who creates thought provoking solo performance works that question and negotiate themes of sexuality, power and objectification in women. Since 2015, she has worked creatively with objects to tease out how they can add to or dissolve female subordination. She has uncovered many ways of not only working creatively with objects, but also, how application of different methodological approaches to movement can aid the negotiation of power in performance. Rowena has published multiple creative resources because of her practice, and teaches regular workshops that focus on subjectivity, sexuality, and identity.

Rowena has worked with many professional artists and has successfully collaborated with respected arts organisations through Physical Fest Bursary, Metal Culture’s Remote Residency, Merseyside Dance Initiatives Artist Residency, and Unity Theatre’s Open Call.

Rowena is now preparing for a second national tour of Barely Visible February-April 2023 – a powerful physical solo show that highlights common issues that lesbian women face.

Read Rowena’s blog created as part of a Remote Residency with her in 2020 and watch her film ‘Erotic Dance for Self’ here.
