Dig into your roots with Jake and Hazel, part of the poet led team behind lively spoken word night Words In Chalk.
Together, we’ll be exploring self-expression, emotive language, figurative phrases and performance tips, with time to write and work out new ideas.
Beginners are very welcome in this fun and friendly space.

About the poets
Jake is a slam winning spoken-word poet, producer and rapper from London. His work focusses on mental health, social justice issues and being working class in England. Jake has headlined poetry shows across the South East. His poems have been featured on BBC Radio Kent and the Word Spoken podcast. He has had page poetry published by Anti-Heroin Chic, Thanet Writers and elsewhere.
Hazel Mehmet has been using their voice to speak on all things political, all things parenting, and all things queer, since October 2019. They have headlined a number of incredible UK shows, such as The Big Queer Poetry Show, BYOB, Trouble Tongues, Big Trouble Poetry, Brixton Says and Moetry, and have been interviewed for several radio shows. When not parenting, writing, working or correcting people on the pronunciation of their name Hazel also works to help the homeless communities, both personally, and via their global platform Shxts & Scribbles.
