We’re excited to host Alice Roots, a performance artist (and 1/5th of Figs in Wigs) to share her new project, BANK OF HOPE which invites you to think, write and play. We’ll also be spinning our artist-made tombola, created especially for Southend by the brilliant Sally Chinea.
Alice is a performance artist working in live art, dance, cabaret and theatre. Her work is light and provocative. She has developed a considered style of physical performance that is visual, expressionate, playful, clown-like and sensitive. She has made performance for the outdoors, durational work, pieces for club context, gallery setting and traditional theatre spaces.
She makes work independently and in collaboration with other artists. Alice is co-artistic director of Figs in Wigs, a five-strong female performance company whose work is an unconventional mix of theatre, live art, comedy and dance. With an antiquated sense of humour they use puns, bad jokes and pop culture references to charm and disarm audiences of all ages.
Alice has choreographed for Bryony Kimmings, Sink The Pink and Duckie. Alice has also made performance work with GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN, Viv Gordon and Tom Roden (R&D), Vic Lewellyn (R&D), Robert Pacitti, Hunt & Darton, Caroline Wright and Helen Paris.
She has performed nationally and internationally.
